max neuhaus: suspended sound line (1999)
Last week I visited Max Neuhaus’ “Suspended Sound Line”, a permanent sound installation in Bern’s Lorraine quarter. It is located on the campus of the Gewerblich-Industrielle Berufsschule Bern, for which it was conceived in 1999. I used to visit it now and then when I was still studying in the neighbouring Breitenrain quarter, but hadn’t done so in a year or two....

hang-ups
In my current compositional process, MIDI hang-ups are accepted as part of the system output and become part of the composition. The picture below shows the raw and unedited MIDI data of a ~5 minute piece I generated and recorded last week.

field recording: underground code
Last week we went hiking around Zermatt, Switzerland for a couple of days. Towards the end of our last hike we came across a small gully in a field still some way above the village. The lid was entirely covered in grass but the noise of the water running underneath the ground stood out in contrast of the nature ambience. a present and a release announcement

remix without a cause
Arne Bense, musician and musicologist from Osnabrück, Germany has just released his second album under the Novaphobia moniker, “A Night at the Operator” (Samplepark Records). I did a remix for his track “The Hive” back in June 2011, which now features on the album. Incidentally, my short remix prompted Arne to massively rework and shorten his original 3 or 4 minute track....

new press
The first couple of reviews for the new centrozoon album “Boner” have arrived over the past weeks. I’ve posted links and jpg versions of print reviews at my updated press site. “Boner” is officially out May 9th and is released in two versions: one mixed by Adrian Benavides and one by Marziano Fontana. Both albums were mastered by Lee Fletcher. Here are the two...
